Hi, I’m Jesse Davis. For nearly 20 years, the guitar has been at the center of my life. I picked it up at 17, feeling like I had some catching up to do—and never imagined it would become my career.
Since then, I’ve performed as both a soloist and ensemble musician at hundreds of weddings, cocktail hours, and special events. As a full-time instructor, I’ve helped students of all ages discover the joy of making music. I also serve as President of the Ventura County Classical Guitar Society, where I connect with local students and visiting artists while supporting a vibrant guitar community.
Through these experiences, I’ve immersed myself in the world of classical guitar—exploring a wide range of players, styles, and, perhaps most importantly, instruments.
That search for the right instrument became a journey of its own. While looking for my “one and only” concert guitar, I realized no single instrument fully captured what I was after. Then my friend and mentor, Gil Carnal, asked a simple question: what if I built it myself?
That question opened a new chapter—one where performing, teaching, and crafting guitars became inseparable passions, each shaping and inspiring the others.
Playability
Playability is paramount. Every guitar I build is designed to feel comfortable and effortless in both hands—freeing the player to be more expressive, more dynamic, and more deeply connected to the music. The instrument should respond to your intent without resistance.
That sense of ease is not accidental; it’s the result of careful attention to countless details. Elements such as neck shape and thickness, body geometry, string action and spacing, nut and saddle design, and fretwork all play a critical role. Too often, otherwise exceptional guitars go unplayed due to poor setup. My goal is to eliminate those barriers, so the instrument invites you in every time you play.
Built to Last — Heirloom Quality
As a player, I hold my tools to the highest standards—and I build my guitars the same way. They are made to withstand the demands of daily playing and the rigors of travel. Because instruments are constantly exposed to changes in climate, durability is essential.
Each guitar is constructed with longevity in mind, using methods that allow it to endure for generations. When maintenance or repair is eventually needed, the instrument can be fully disassembled and reassembled—much like fine violins have been for centuries—ensuring it can be properly cared for over a lifetime. These are instruments built not just to last, but to be passed down.
A Beautiful, Inspiring Sound
Over years of listening and playing, I’ve developed a clear sense of the tonal qualities that define exceptional instruments—especially in the hands of skilled musicians. My aim is to build guitars that offer a full palette of tone color and dynamic range, with the sustain, volume and projection required of a concert classical guitar.
Above all, each instrument should possess a voice that is both beautiful and distinctive. A truly great guitar does more than make the music—it inspires it.
The only thing I enjoy as much as making music is helping my students discover that same joy for themselves. I especially love the “aha” moment—that instant when something clicks and a new skill comes to life.
I’ve been teaching music in one form or another for over 20 years, and today I specialize in private, in-home guitar lessons. Because every student learns differently, I tailor each session to meet your individual needs and goals. Students and their families often describe me as patient, encouraging, and supportive. Many stay with me for years—some until they leave for college—and a few have even gone on to become professional performers themselves.
I’ve worked with students ranging in age from 5 to 95, and I truly believe it’s never too early or too late to begin. Anyone can learn to play simple melodies, and with dedication and consistent practice, real progress is always within reach. While it’s certainly possible to learn on your own, working with an experienced teacher can make the journey faster, more enjoyable, and far more rewarding.

"I'll admit that before I started learning from you, I was a bit hesitant to have guitar lessons; now, I'm so glad I did! You are such a great teacher. I felt that we moved at my pace, and I was never overwhelmed. You've helped me discover how relaxing and fun playing an instrument can be, which could be a big plus when I transfer to (college)....I'm definitely going to miss this class."
