Hello! My name is Jesse Davis, and I’ve been a professional classical guitarist for nearly 20 years. Based in my hometown of Camarillo, California, I perform as a soloist and with various ensembles for wedding ceremonies, cocktail hours — you name it. I’ve also spent most of those two decades as a full-time music instructor. During this time, I’ve been deeply involved in the local classical guitar community and have had the opportunity to experience a wide range of players, styles, and instruments.
When I began searching for my “one and only” concert classical guitar, I realized that no single instrument quite checked all the boxes for me. That’s when my friend and mentor, Gil Carnal, suggested something I'd never considered before: building one myself.
There are a few core principles that guide my approach to building instruments:
Built to Last — Heirloom Quality
As a player, I demand the highest standards from my tools. My guitars need to withstand the realities of being played hard every single day, as well as the challenges of constant travel. Extreme changes in climate can cause an instrument to quite literally tear itself apart, so durability is non-negotiable. My goal is to build guitars that can handle anything I throw at them. And when the time eventually comes for maintenance or repair, the instrument can be fully disassembled and reassembled—much like fine violins have been for centuries—ensuring it can be cared for over a lifetime.
Playability
I believe a guitar should feel effortless to play. It should be comfortable for both the left and right hands, allowing the player to focus entirely on musical expression. When I’m not fighting the instrument, I can be more expressive, more dynamic, and more connected to the music—the guitar simply does what I want it to do. That sense of ease is something I strive to build into every instrument I make.
A Beautiful, Inspiring Sound
I’ve developed a strong ear over the years, and there are certain tonal qualities I hear in exceptional instruments—especially in the hands of skilled players. I aim to build guitars capable of delivering the full range of dynamics and tone color expected of a concert classical guitar, with plenty of volume and projection. Above all, each guitar should have an attractive and distinctive voice. The sound of a truly great instrument doesn’t just allow one to play the music—it inspires the interpretation of it.
